If you like reading newspaper articles from the late 1800s, you’ve come to the right place. And while the ultimate goal of this project is to answer: Who wrote the note and who threw the message in the bottle in the ocean remains, I’m wading through a ton of stuff that I find interesting, and hopefully, you will, too.
Here’s what I’ve got on Capt. Sam to date. He’s the guy who owned and sailed Yacht Neptune, the boat mentioned in the handwritten note inside the message in a bottle. To say the Captain was an overachiever is an understatement, plus it sounds like people thought he was a cool dude. From what I’ve found so far, his obituary sums up his life the best.
But if you keep scrolling, I also have links to all the articles I’ve found, plus a few photos of a racing trophy that sold for over $7000 and a postcard of a boat he sailed on after the Neptune. I’m pretty pumped about the stuff I’ve found, but I am still looking for articles from 1876.
Finding one will involve going to libraries. I’ll be back after I do that.
